Having fun and expanding your mind aren’t mutually exclusive! Let’s help the kids flex their creative muscles while having an absolute blast, with family crafts!
Kids have incredibly inventive minds and these family crafts will let them unlock that potential. We’re constantly surprised by just how amazing kids can get when you really let them explore their creativity!
Custom Kicks!
This is one of the best ways to show off their creativity, because they get to wear them!
All you need is a pair of shoes in their size (we like to check at places like Value Village for a good bargain!), some fabric paint, and a few paint brushes. It can be easier to stick to a plain white or black shoe, but you can always bring them to pick out the shoes too.
Under Their Umbrella!
Same idea as the kicks, but with an umbrella!
I don’t know what age people start hating the rain, but kids don’t suffer from this problem! Whether they’re walking to school or just want to go on a downpour adventure, this craft will let them do it in style.
Crayon Sun Art!
If your kids like colouring and drawing, they likely have a bunch of half-used crayons just sitting around collecting dust. This one will help with that!
Put all the old crayons into a silicon mold and pop it into the oven for a few minutes. You’ll see they all combined into a single unit! Grate the new creations to create strings and flakes of colour, and have the kids put them all over a piece of construction paper. Leave it in the sun for a day, and they’ll have a unique piece of art for their room!

Fortune Teller!
A schoolyard classic!
Whether or not they’re accurate is completely irrelevant because they’re just too much fun for kids! If you can’t remember exactly how to fold it (neither can we), there’s a handy little guide here.
Marble Tumbler!
This one takes a bit of planning, but it’s worth it.
Every time you get to the end of a roll of toilet paper, save the tube. Once you have a good amount of them, you can help the kids create a marble maze! It’s super simple, and you can get an idea of what it will look like here.
DIY Kites!
There’s something about things dancing in the wind that looks so pretty!
Grab a package of brown paper lunch bags, stickers, streamers, or whatever else you can think will look good. Attach a string to them and let the kids run around on a windy day! You could also attach them (nice and sturdy) somewhere in the backyard!
Become A Dragon!
Keep a couple of those toilet paper rolls for this unique craft!
You won’t need much besides the rolls, just a few items from the dollar store (or your favourite local craft store). For a full tutorial, you can find a video walkthrough here.
